The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, established in 2002 under the Executive Agencies Act, Cap. 245. The Agency was formed as part of the Public Service Reform Programme (PSRP II) to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery. WMA carries out its responsibilities in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340.

To support professional development and provide practical workplace experience for young graduates, WMA invites qualified, competent, motivated, and dynamic Tanzanian graduates to apply for 32 volunteering opportunities for a period of 12 months in the following cadres.

1. Assistant Weights and Measures Officer – 18 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Adjust measuring instruments.

  2. Care for working standards.

  3. Mobilize working tools and equipment before and after field work.

  4. Perform daily system initialization and backups to computer systems.

  5. Perform any other related duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution.

2. Weights and Measures Officer II – 8 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Inspect, verify, and adjust measuring instruments.

  2. Keep and maintain working standards.

  3. Advise on the verification and use of measuring instruments.

  4. Investigate non-compliance with statutory requirements.

  5. Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution.

3. Records Management Assistant II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Search and locate records, documents, and files for office use.

  2. Control and register incoming and outgoing mails.

  3. Analyze, list, and arrange records/documents according to subject classification and boxing.

  4. Keep letters and documents in respective files and racks.

  5. Handle applications for records/documents from Government institutions.

  6. Distribute files to respective officers.

  7. Handle dispatch books.

  8. Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Diploma in Records Management, Records and Archives Management, Corporate Information Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

4. Legal Officer II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Administer the Legal Registry.

  2. Receive and prepare records of recovery and repayment cases for the Court of Law.

  3. Prepare monthly reports on legal matters attended.

  4. Receive, register, and maintain law periodicals, Government Gazettes, Government Notices, Bills, Acts of Parliament, law books, and journals.

  5. Receive, register, and file police case files, letters, and other corresponding documents submitted to the Ministerial Advisory Board for legal advice.

  6. Assist in legal and policy research on matters related to the Agency.

  7. Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution and must have attended and passed Internship or Law School of Tanzania.

5. Public Relations Officer II – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Liaise with communication and advertising agencies.

  2. Participate in the implementation of marketing plans.

  3. Receive and document suggestions raised by stakeholders.

  4. Collect and process information from various sources.

  5. Collect data on market studies and e-service needs.

  6. Implement awareness and sensitization campaigns for the Agency.

  7. Segment customers in order to launch targeted campaigns.

  8. Prepare journals, bulletins, flyers, and posters.

  9. Capture, process, and store still and video images.

  10. Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Communication, or related qualifications from recognized institutions.

6. ICT Officer II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design, implement, and test databases.

  2. Implement security and access controls in databases.

  3. Participate in designing various databases, including server configuration, security, disaster recovery and backups, database structures, logical data models, scripts, and stored procedures.

  4. Participate in creating, overseeing, and assisting in the maintenance of database reference materials libraries.

  5. Assist in testing application updates, enhancements, and changes.

  6. Troubleshoot and solve problems related to database development.

  7. Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Network Engineering, Information Systems, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or any related discipline from a recognized institution.

7. Economist II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Participate in the collection of various data.

  2. Collect information and statistics for priority setting.

  3. Prepare and distribute statistical and economic information.

  4. Participate in drafting project requirements in collaboration with various stakeholders.

  5. Participate in the mobilization of resources.

  6. Participate in various research teams and prepare research reports.

  7. Collect inputs for the review of the strategic plan.

  8. Follow up on the release of funds from different stakeholders.

  9. Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Economics, Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Planning and Investment, Economic Planning, Project Planning and Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

General Conditions

  1. Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years.

  2. Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts, including postal address, email address, and telephone numbers.

  3. Applicants must attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts, and birth certificates.

  4. Applicants must have two guarantors who are Public Servants.

  5. Applicants must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority.

  6. Applicants must be willing to volunteer in the respective assigned area.

  7. Applicants must attach a copy of the National Identification Card (NIDA).

  8. Applicants must not have been convicted by any Court of Law for criminal or disciplinary offences and must possess good conduct and acceptable moral character within the community.

  9. Applicants must not have been employed by any Public Institution since graduation.

  10. Testimonials, Provisional Results, Statements of Results, and Form IV and Form VI Results Slips shall not be accepted.

  11. All foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities, namely TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET. Applicants applying for positions requiring a specific GPA must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU.

  12. The volunteering programme is strictly intended for skills development and acquisition of work experience and shall not be construed as a basis for automatic employment in the Public Service.
