The Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS), on behalf of the Tanzania Railways Corporation, invites applications from qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill various vacant positions as detailed below.


1. ENGINEER II (ELECTRO-MECHANICAL) – 2 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for electric and diesel locomotives.
  • Support predictive maintenance activities using diagnostic tools and fault history.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in electromechanical systems including:
    • Electric traction systems
    • Diesel locomotive systems
    • Auxiliary systems such as pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, battery chargers, lighting systems, and fans.
  • Inspect electrical machinery at quarries and conduct insulation testing of conductors in rolling stock, machinery, and buildings.
  • Conduct continuity checks, ground fault testing, insulation testing, and performance verification.
  • Provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians on troubleshooting and safe work practices.
  • Recommend reliability improvements including spares optimization and maintenance procedure updates.
  • Assist in skills development and onboarding of electromechanical maintenance staff.
  • Use diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, insulation testers, and locomotive fault readers.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Applicants must be registered as Graduate Engineers by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

2. CIVIL TECHNICIAN II (RAIL TRACK TECHNOLOGY) – 5 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain railway bridges, culverts, buildings, and track works.
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings and project plans.
  • Prepare track maintenance plans and submit them to supervisors.
  • Participate in laboratory testing of construction materials and soil samples.
  • Ensure construction works conform to design specifications and railway standards.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Rail Track Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspection and servicing of electric and diesel locomotives.
  • Replace worn-out components and maintain rotating equipment.
  • Diagnose operational faults such as overheating, reduced power, or abnormal alarms.
  • Service refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform insulation and continuity testing as well as cable repair and replacement.
  • Maintain technical records.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of FTC or Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Locomotive Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

4. TECHNICIAN II (CARRIAGE AND WAGON EXAMINER) – 6 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain rolling stock and locomotives.
  • Maintain workshop machinery and plant equipment.

  • Service handling equipment and ancillary plants.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of FTC or Ordinary Diploma in Carriage and Wagon Mechanical Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

5. SIGNAL & TELECOMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN II – 5 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, construct, and maintain signaling and telecommunication systems.
  • Oversee utilization and expansion of fibre optic networks along railway lines.
  • Install and maintain SGR/MGR signal systems and telecommunication equipment.
  • Participate in accident investigations.
  • Maintain train control systems, electronic warrant systems, cargo tracking systems, radio communication systems, and underground cables.
  • Prepare technical reports, plans, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Submit periodic technical reports.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of FTC or Ordinary Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in installation of electrical systems.
  • Maintain and repair catenary systems.
  • Install and repair electrical wiring and equipment in TRC offices and buildings.

  • Perform any other assigned duties.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Form Four Certificate plus Trade Test II, NVA Level II/III, or NTA Level 4 in Electrical Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

7. ARTISAN II – SIGNAL & TELECOMMUNICATION – 30 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain signaling and telecommunication control systems.
  • Assist in electrical connections to transformers and S&T equipment.
  • Install new signaling and telecommunication systems.
  • Perform pointsman duties.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Form Four Certificate plus Trade Test II, NVA Level II/III, or NTA Level 4 in Signal & Telecommunication, Electronics, or Communication Engineering Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pack railway tracks as directed.
  • Inspect track components along railway lines.
  • Repair track defects according to railway manuals.

  • Load and offload railway materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate cranes, winches, forklifts, and other mechanical handling equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Secretarial Studies or Secretarial Services with:

  • 100 w.p.m shorthand in English and Kiswahili,
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and Publisher,
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment.

14. INSTRUCTOR II – TELECOMMUNICATION – 1 POST

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Bachelor’s Degree in Signal & Telecommunication Technology, Telecommunication Engineering, or equivalent qualification with minimum GPA of 3.5. Applicants must be eligible for registration as Technical Teachers and registered as Graduate Engineers by ERB.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification with minimum GPA of 3.5 and registered by ERB as Graduate Engineer.

Holder of Yard Foremen Certificate from TIRTEC or NTA Level 4 in Railway Transportation or equivalent qualification.

17. STATION MASTER II – 18 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and dispatch trains.
  • Ensure safe and efficient railway operations.
  • Supervise station operations and security.
  • Manage marshalling yard activities.
  • Supervise loading and unloading activities.
  • Guide subordinate staff.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of NTA Level VI in Railway Transportation, Transport Management, Logistics Management, or equivalent qualification.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Secondary Education Certificate with:

  • Valid Class C or E Driving License,
  • One-year Basic Driving Certificate from VETA or NIT,
  • At least one year accident-free driving experience.

Trade Test Grade II in Motor Vehicle Mechanics is an added advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Form IV Certificate with Locomotive Driving or Locomotive Shunting Certificate from TIRTEC or recognized institution and Class F or G Driving License.

20. ASSISTANT COMMERCIAL OFFICER II (TRAVEL & TICKET EXAMINER) – 5 POSTS

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Ordinary Diploma in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration (Marketing), or equivalent qualification. Must have Train Guard Certificate from TIRTEC and computer literacy skills.

21. ASSISTANT COMMERCIAL OFFICER II (CUSTOMER SERVICE) – 2 POSTS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide customer support to passengers.
  • Respond to complaints and inquiries.

  • Support product and ticket sales.

Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Ordinary Diploma in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or equivalent qualification. Computer literacy is mandatory.
