VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacant positions:
1. PROJECT OFFICER (1 POST)
Organisational Unit: University of Dar es Salaam School of Economics
Project: Environment for Development Tanzania (EfDT)
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam
Reports to: Centre Director
Background
The position is based at the School of Economics under the Centre for Environment for Development Tanzania (EfDT), which is part of the global Environment for Development (EfD) network. The EfD initiative strengthens environmental economics capacity to support evidence-based policymaking for poverty alleviation and sustainable development in developing countries.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Officer will:

Plan, coordinate, and support implementation of EfDT research and policy-related activities.
-
Coordinate research activities including field data collection, data management, and documentation of outputs.
-
Provide administrative and financial support in compliance with UDSM regulations and donor requirements.
-
Support stakeholder engagement, communication, and dissemination of research findings.
-
Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of project activities.
-
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Centre Director.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Qualifications
Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution in one of the following fields:

B.A. in Economics
-
B.A. in Economics and Statistics
-
BSc in Agricultural and Natural Resources Economics and Business (ANEB)
-
Or a closely related discipline
Experience
Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply if they have demonstrated relevant experience through internships, research projects, volunteer work, or short-term engagements in project management or research coordination.
Prior experience of 1–2 years in project or process management is desirable but not mandatory.

Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Ability to work effectively with academia, government, and development partners

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Added Advantages

Master’s degree in Environmental Economics or related field

Experience with development assistance projects or international organizations
-
Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder or international projects
-
Knowledge of SDGs and policy analysis
-
Experience organizing meetings, workshops, or conferences
-
Proven writing/publication skills (policy briefs, reports, research outputs)
Terms of Service

One-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

2. PROGRAMME OFFICER (1 POST)
Organisational Unit: Centre for Climate Change Studies (CCCS)
Institute: Institute of Resource Assessment
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam
Background
The Centre for Climate Change Studies (CCCS) is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary centre addressing climate change through academic training, research, and outreach programmes in collaboration with local and international partners.
Education Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
-
Master’s degree in Natural Resource Assessment and Management, Climate Change and Sustainable Development, International Development, Sociology, or related field
-
PhD in Climate Change will be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Support research activities including proposal writing and literature reviews
-
Provide technical assistance and track project deliverables
-
Participate in fieldwork and data collection
-
Review research materials and prepare synthesis reports
-
Support communication with senior researchers
-
Monitor research grant calls and advise accordingly
-
Identify collaborative research opportunities
-
Coordinate work planning, budgeting, and reporting
Experience
Proven experience in proposal writing, research planning, fieldwork coordination, data analysis, and research reporting.
Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication in English

Strong teamwork and independent working ability

Organizational skills and attention to detail

Good presentation skills
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Terms of Service

3. OFFICE ASSISTANT (3 POSTS)

Qualifications

Holder of Form IV Certificate of Secondary Education with passes in English and Kiswahili.
Duties and Responsibilities

Collect and deliver mails and letters

Transmit official documents within the University

Carry machinery and equipment
-
Prepare and serve office refreshments
-
Open and close offices daily
-
Maintain cleanliness of offices and surroundings
-
Supervise general cleanliness within assigned areas

Report maintenance requirements of office equipment
Terms of Service
