The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) has announced new employment opportunities for qualified Tanzanians to support the implementation of the PHOTON Trial, a cluster-randomized clinical trial aimed at preventing tuberculosis among household contacts in Tanzania.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with Rigshospitalet (Denmark) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (United Kingdom).

1. Lead Study Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
- Lead coordination of the PHOTON Trial during preparation, implementation, and dissemination.
- Coordinate local and international collaborators and stakeholders.
- Ensure successful implementation of the clinical trial.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Medical Degree.
- Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, Public Health or related field.
- Proven experience coordinating cluster randomized clinical trials.
- Excellent recruitment and participant retention record.
- At least four published quantitative scientific research articles.
- Experience presenting scientific findings to stakeholders and conferences.
Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum four years of health research experience.
- Registered with the Tanganyika Medical Council.
- Strong leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
2. Study Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate clinical trial preparation and implementation.
- Recruit study participants and oversee intervention delivery.
- Lead participant retention and stakeholder engagement activities.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- Medical Degree.
- Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, Public Health or related field.
- Experience coordinating clinical trials.
- At least two published quantitative scientific articles.
- Experience presenting scientific research.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum two years of health research experience.
- Registered medical practitioner.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.

3. Clinical Trial Data Manager
Position Summary
The successful candidate will manage clinical trial databases, Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems, REDCap platforms, and develop Python-based applications supporting participant scheduling, workflow automation, reporting, and data quality throughout the study lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design REDCap databases and electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs).
- Develop participant tracking systems.
- Build Python applications for scheduling and workflow automation.
- Integrate REDCap APIs with external systems.
- Perform data cleaning, quality assurance, reporting, and database validation.
- Support monitoring visits, audits, database lock and study close-out.
- Develop SOPs and train study personnel.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics or related field.
- Minimum three years of clinical data management experience.
- Advanced REDCap database development skills.
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Experience with SQL and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of R and/or Stata is an added advantage.
- Strong communication, teamwork and organizational skills.
4. Project Procurement Officer
Key Responsibilities
- Support procurement activities under the Centre Procurement Officer.
- Ensure compliance with procurement regulations.
- Facilitate efficient procurement of project equipment and supplies.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Logistics Management, Business Management (Procurement & Supply), or related field.
- Registration with PSPTB.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years’ procurement experience in research or academic institutions.
- Experience using Tanzania’s National e-Procurement System (NeST).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
5. Human Resources / Administrative Officer
Key Responsibilities
- Support human resource and administrative functions.
- Coordinate recruitment activities.
- Maintain personnel records.
- Prepare employment contracts.
- Coordinate staff training.
- Monitor payroll validation.
- Ensure compliance with labour laws and institutional policies.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Human Resources Planning, Business Administration (HRM), or equivalent qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum two years’ administrative experience in NIMR projects.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to teamwork and project excellence.
