The Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO–RALG), through the Global Partnership for Education – Teacher Support Programme (GPE–TSP), is implementing various interventions aimed at improving the teaching profession. One of these interventions is the engagement of Volunteer Teachers.
Through this programme, PMO–RALG hereby announces 1,500 volunteer teaching opportunities for Secondary Schools under Local Government Authorities with the greatest teacher shortages, in accordance with the Secondary Teacher Allocation Protocol (S–TAP).
Accordingly, qualified Tanzanians are invited to apply for one thousand five hundred (1,500) Volunteer Teacher positions, as detailed in this announcement. The opportunities target teachers in the following subject areas:

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Vocational Subjects

Business Studies
1.0 GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A VOLUNTEER TEACHER
A Volunteer Teacher shall be responsible for:
i. Preparing work plans, lesson plans, lesson notes, and schemes of work, as well as plans for other assigned duties;
ii. Preparing and improvising teaching and learning materials;
iii. Teaching, assessing, and maintaining records of students’ academic progress;
iv. Monitoring and supervising students’ attendance at school and in classrooms;
v. Providing holistic student guidance, including intellectual, physical, moral, and spiritual development, as well as counseling and mentorship;
vi. Offering professional and academic advice on education development;
vii. Managing and safeguarding school equipment and property;
viii. Performing any other duties assigned by the Head of School in accordance with school responsibilities.
1.1 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER PHYSICS TEACHER – 504 POSITIONS
An applicant must possess one of the following qualifications:
i. A Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education degree with Physics as a teaching subject from a Government-recognized higher learning institution; or
ii. A Bachelor’s degree (non-Education) with Physics as a teaching subject plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a recognized institution; or
iii. A Diploma in Education with Physics as a teaching subject from a recognized Teachers’ Training College.
1.2 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER CHEMISTRY TEACHER – 246 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Chemistry; or
ii. Bachelor’s degree (non-Education) with Chemistry plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education; or
iii. Diploma in Education with Chemistry.
(All qualifications must be obtained from Government-recognized institutions.)
1.3 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER BIOLOGY TEACHER – 332 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Biology; or
ii. Bachelor’s degree (non-Education) with Biology plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education; or
iii. Diploma in Education with Biology.
1.4 QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER MATHEMATICS TEACHER – 418 POSITIONS
i. Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Mathematics; or
ii. Bachelor’s degree (non-Education) with Mathematics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education; or
iii. Diploma in Education with Mathematics.
1.5 GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR APPLICANTS
All applicants must:
i. Be a Tanzanian citizen with a National Identification Number (NIDA) and be not more than 43 years old;
ii. Attach copies of birth certificate, academic certificates, and professional qualifications;
iii. Be willing to work in secondary schools with critical teacher shortages;
iv. Not be employed by the Government or any other institution;
v. Not have been dismissed or retired from Public Service due to disciplinary reasons;
vi. Upload all required documents through the application system; and
vii. Applicants who completed secondary education outside Tanzania must obtain a NECTA Equivalence Number (EQ…) from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania.
