Over 14,600 Public Servants Paid Arrears Worth TZS 22 Billion
The Government of Tanzania has issued 43,866 job permits across various sectors between July 2025 and March 2026, in a major move aimed at strengthening the public service workforce and improving service delivery nationwide.
The announcement was made by Ridhiwani Kikwete, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, during a budget presentation in Parliament.
7,000 Additional Positions Approved
According to the Minister, the Government also approved over 7,000 additional job positions during the same period. These include:
- Replacement hires
- Staff transfers
- Unpaid positions
- Leadership roles
These approvals are part of broader reforms to enhance efficiency, address workforce gaps, and improve public service delivery.
Government Pays TZS 22 Billion in Employee Claims
Speaking in Dodoma on April 17, 2026, Kikwete highlighted the Government’s continued commitment to employee welfare.
He confirmed that more than 14,600 public servants have been paid salary arrears and other claims totaling over TZS 22 billion.
“The Government remains committed to settling outstanding claims and improving the welfare of public servants,” he stated.
