Job Vacancies at Ofisi ya Makamu wa Rais Tanzania January 2026
The Vice President’s Office (VPO), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Kigoma Regional Secretariat, the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC), and the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS), is implementing the project “Building Climate Resilience in the Kigoma Region.”
The project is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through UNEP and will be implemented from 2025 to 2029 in Kasulu, Kibondo, and Kakonko Districts of Kigoma Region. The project aims to strengthen community resilience to climate change impacts through sustainable land management, conservation of natural resources, and climate-smart agriculture practices.
In order to support effective implementation of the project, the Office of the Vice President invites qualified Tanzanians to apply for the following fixed-term positions, which are renewable annually subject to performance and project needs.
1. Project Manager (PM)
Project Title: Building Resilience in the Landscapes of Kigoma, Tanzania (GCF FP218)
Position Type: National, Full-time
Contract Duration: One (1) year, renewable up to five (5) years
Duty Station: Kigoma
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of the Project Management Unit (PMU).
-
Ensure effective implementation of project activities in line with the Funding Proposal, Project Cooperation Agreement (PCA), and relevant national and UN policies.
-
Prepare annual work plans, budgets, progress reports, and performance updates.
-
Coordinate implementing partners and stakeholders at national, regional, and district levels.
-
Oversee financial management, risk management, monitoring and evaluation.
-
Ensure quality assurance of project outputs and timely delivery of results.
-
Strengthen stakeholder engagement, communication, and project visibility.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Conservation, or related fields (PhD is an added advantage).
-
At least 7 years’ experience managing donor-funded projects.
-
At least 5 years’ experience in climate change adaptation, ecosystem-based adaptation, or sustainable land management.
-
Experience working with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) or similar funding mechanisms is desirable.
-
Strong leadership, coordination, reporting, and communication skills.
2. Finance and Accounting Officer (FAO)
Position Type: National, Full-time
Contract Duration: One (1) year, renewable up to five (5) years
Duty Station: Kigoma
Key Responsibilities
-
Prepare and manage project budgets and financial reports in compliance with GCF, UNEP, and Government procedures.
-
Control and monitor project expenditures and cash flows.
-
Prepare advance requests, bank reconciliations, and audited financial statements.
-
Maintain accurate financial records and support audit processes.
-
Provide financial oversight and capacity building to implementing partners.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Environmental Studies, Agricultural Sciences, or related fields.
-
At least 5 years’ experience in financial management of donor-funded projects.
-
Experience with GCF, GEF, Adaptation Fund, or similar projects is an added advantage.
-
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
3. Safeguards and Gender Officer
Position Type: National, Full-time
Contract Duration: One (1) year, renewable up to five (5) years
Duty Station: Kigoma
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead implementation of the project Gender Action Plan (GAP).
-
Ensure compliance with Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) and the UNEP Environmental and Social Sustainability Framework.
-
Manage grievance redress mechanisms (GRM) and conflict sensitivity measures.
-
Provide safeguards monitoring, reporting, and capacity building.
-
Promote gender equality, inclusion, and prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH).
Qualifications and Experience
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, or related fields.
-
At least 5 years’ experience in gender mainstreaming and safeguards in donor-funded projects.
-
Experience in implementing GAPs, ESS, and GRMs.
4. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) / Land Use Planning Expert
Position Type: National, Full-time
Contract Duration: One (1) year, renewable up to five (5) years
Duty Station: Kigoma
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide technical support on climate-smart agriculture, land use planning, and livelihood diversification.
-
Strengthen district and community capacity in climate-resilient agriculture and water management.
-
Support establishment and strengthening of Water User Associations (WUAs).
-
Promote ecosystem-based adaptation and value chain linkages.
-
Prepare technical reports and support knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Advanced degree in Agriculture, Environmental Management, Natural Resources, or related fields.
-
At least 7 years’ experience in climate-smart agriculture and livelihood projects.
-
Strong experience working with district councils and community-based initiatives.
